30,000 comments on PolyMet leads to one week extension
After receiving over 30,000 public comments in thirty days, the Minnesota DNR has decided to extend the public input period for PolyMet’s final environmental impact statement by one week. The new deadline for public objections and comments is Monday, December 21 at 4:30 PM.
The number of public comments shows the level of concern about PolyMet’s proposed sulfide mine and the risk it poses to Minnesota’s clean water. The rate of public comments (nearly 1,000 a day) is even higher than the previous public input period in 2014. The 58,000 comments filed on PolyMet’s earlier draft environmental impact statement set a Minnesota record, and 98% of those comments opposed PolyMet’s proposal.
